4 Things You Absolutely Must Know to BE Your Greatest Self

Your Deepest Desires

I hear a lot of people talking about wanting to live as their “greatest self” or wanting to live their “ideal life”. But do they even know what that looks like?

Do you want to live as your greatest self in your ideal life? If yes, do you have any idea what that looks like for you?

If a genie popped up in front of you right this second and said, “Tell me all aspects of your ideal life and I will grant those for you in an instant,” would you even know what to ask for?

How much time do you spend every day imagining your greatest self in your ideal life? Versus how much time do you spend every day regretting, complaining, making excuses, pondering what-ifs, and comparing yourself to others?

You’ve heard it a million times, but it really is true that where your attention goes, energy flows. If you are putting more time and energy into focusing on what you don’t want rather than what you do want, how do you ever expect to live as your greatest self in your ideal life? (Unless your greatest self is a complaining, victimized, excuse-maker. In that case, congratulations! You’ve made it!)

So, what do you want? Can you even imagine it? Have you ever immersed yourself into your ideal life with all your senses? Seeing it? Hearing it? Smelling it? Tasting it? Feeling it?

If not, take heart. It’s not your fault. Without a doubt, you have been conditioned by society to embrace humility, play small, dim your brightness and hide your desires. If you have found your way to BE Light Transformative Therapy, that is almost certainly the case. Trust me, I have been there and I totally get it.

You have been so conditioned to keep yourself down, that when asked to imagine your ideal life, you can’t even do it! You have been playing small for so long that even when you are asked to DREAM BIG, you automatically shrink your imagination to fit into your self-defined limitations. You limit your greatness and play small even in your imagination!

But I know your secret. I know that deep down inside, if you had no guilt around being immodest, you would admit that you are special. You know you are special. You know you have gifts to share with the world that only you can offer. You know that you are deserving of the life of your dreams.

Today, I want to help you visualize your greatest self, living in your ideal life because I too know that you are deserving of the life of your dreams. And I too want to see what extraordinary creations you, living as your greatest self, are going to bring into this world.

Number 2

Your Breath-Mind-Body Connection

Think of a time when you were super anxious. Really think about it. Put yourself back in that memory.

What is happening in your mind and your body? What is happening with your breath?

More likely than not, you are breathing shallowly and high in your chest (what is referred to as apical breathing). You are probably using the accessory muscles of your throat and upper chest to take your breath, rather than your diaphragm. This is distorting your posture by keeping your shoulders pinned to your ears and closing off your heart center. This is also causing tension and constriction in the sensitive structures of your neck, face and head.

Notably, your vagus nerve is being compressed and irritated, sustaining a chronic stress response in your body. Your carotid arteries are being compressed, causing an increase in blood pressure and an inner sense of disruption.

The muscles of your jaw are tightening, causing you to grind your teeth and induce horrible tension headaches. Your sleep is sporadic, your energy levels are in the trash, your digestion is completely shut down and your immune system is on high-alert.

You are in a constant state of worry and the only signal being sent to your brain is one of danger.

Am I close? Does that sound like an accurate depiction of what it means to be anxious? Can you see the clear overlap of your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies?

In this example, can you see how something that started as a mere mental preoccupation quickly hijacked your breathing, your emotional state and your physical health? And all below your level of conscious awareness?

How you breathe, how you think, how you hold yourself, how you react to your environment all matter! If you are looking to be your greatest self, living your ideal life, it is critical that you understand how your breath, your thoughts, your emotions, your posture, and your beliefs all impact your perception of yourself and your experience of reality.

The good news is, you can take back conscious control of this complex network of interactions. One of the primary ways you can do that is by learning to consciously control your breath. Your breath is a powerful modulator of your physiology that consequently affects your mental state, your emotional state, your mood and your general sense of well-being.

Just as a problem in one part of the network can negatively impact all other parts; a positive shift in one part can positively impact all other parts. The health of one affects the health of all, for better and for worse.

Number 3

Your Unconditional Love of Self

Do you love yourself? Does that question make you uncomfortable? Is this another area where you’ve been so conditioned to be modest that you can’t openly acknowledge your most beautiful attributes without feeling shame and discomfort? Do you believe the only proper way to talk about yourself out loud is with self-deprecating commentary? Is your inner landscape an assault of negative self-talk?

Do you think that’s the path to being your greatest self? Is your best self filled with hatred and vitriol? If someone else made those same pejorative and hateful comments to you, wouldn’t you classify that as a form of abuse or bullying?

I know, it’s a lot of questions (my boyfriend calls me “The Question Lady”🤷‍♀️), but if you are not currently living as your greatest self in your ideal life, some self-inquiry is warranted.

The fact is, if you don’t think you’re the greatest, no one else will either. How you feel on the inside manifests externally. Your inner thoughts and feelings about yourself get mirrored back to you by every person and situation you encounter. If you aren’t loving yourself internally, no one will love you externally.

Your greatest self starts with unconditional love and acceptance; and unconditional love and acceptance starts with you.

Here’s an exercise for you to help you start loving yourself. I want you to shift your inner environment for the better, so that your external environment also changes for the better.

Written Exercise:

Please write 3 self-loving affirmations.

What’s an affirmation? It’s a simple statement you say out loud daily as a suggestion to your subconscious mind to help shift your self-limiting beliefs.

Some examples might be:

  • “I am beautiful”
  • “I am joy in this world”
  • “I am the greatest”
  • “My words have a powerful impact.”

Say each of your 3 self-loving affirmations OUT LOUD 3 times per day for 2 weeks straight.

At the end of two weeks, re-evaluate your love for yourself. If you are loving the effect of your affirmations, keep saying them three times per day. You can also choose to write some new affirmations. Enjoy loving yourself!

Number 4

Your Inner Light

My mission is to help people unleash their inner light.

What does that mean? It means releasing out into the world all of the gifts, talents, knowledge and skills that are uniquely yours. These qualities are the true representation of your greatest self.

If you are hiding them or denying them opportunities to shine in the world, you will never be able to live as your greatest self; you will always feel unfulfilled and without purpose.

Here are some exercises to help you connect to your inner light and take action to unleash that light out into the world. Remember, your inner light is synonymous with your greatness.

A. Written Exercise:

What are your gifts, talents, knowledge and skills? No holding back. No modesty. No shyness. Write them all down. See with your own eyes how much extraordinariness you have to bring to the world.


B. Self-Inquiry

The thing is “unleash” is an action. So in order to unleash your light, you are going to need to take action.

Here are some questions for self-inquiry to help motivate you into action:

  1. Are you giving the best of yourself to the things that matter most to you? Meaning are you using the bulk of your energy to cultivate and share your light? Or are you putting your energy toward things that do not matter to you and that do not move you toward your greatest self?
  2. Are you putting aside time every single day to cultivate and share your light? Are you putting aside time every day to create the things you want to create? Are you putting aside time every day to be your greatest self?

I did not offer you these questions so that you could judge yourself harshly. I offered them to you so that you could really evaluate how you are utilizing your time and if your use of time is creating your ideal life. If it’s not, no problem, now is the time to make changes and take action.


C. Action Steps:

Here’s my challenge to you to get you being your greatest.

You've got 15 minutes per day to create your ideal life. What are you gonna do?

  • Write down and commit to 5 actions you will take this month to move toward your ideal life and be your greatest self.

Examples:

  • moving away from a project that is draining your energy
  • incorporating a 5-minute practice into your day that aligns you with your ideal and gets you motivated to share your light
  • scheduling a monthly offering you are passionate about for your community

There is no action too small! Just begin. Remember, small, daily actions quickly turn into massive change!
